Barbara Salonikidou

PhD Student

Barbara studied automation engineering in Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (Greece). She gained paper awards based on her BSc thesis: “A smart glove navigation aid for visually impaired users (CYCLOPS)”, in 5th Panhellenic Biomedical Engineering Conference (ELEVIT/IFMBE, Athens 2013) and in 12th IEEE International Conference on BioInformatics and BioEngineering (BIBE, Cyprus 2012).

Her interest in material science and physics drove her to continue her studies in the field of Nanosciences & Nanotechnologies (MSc) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh, 2013). For her final thesis she designed and developed a web-based Ultra Fast LASER simulation software for organic photovoltaic electrode patterning (‘LMM’).

Barbara is currently doing her PhD research in the Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) at the University of Surrey. Her research interests include bio-inspired sensory systems for unconventional electronics. Her latest research, undertaken in collaboration with Yamagata University in Japan, is published by the American Chemical Society and demonstrates a fully-printed electronic synapse based on cost-effective and eco-friendly methods, which could lead to highly versatile sensory system for neuromorphic and biomimetic applications.
